#1. Top 5 UX trends for 2018

by Daliana Nicolau

“How can we improve the user’s experience? “

This is the kind of question that designers should ask. With that in mind we can say user experience process was big in 2017, from product interfaces, AI, VR to content delivered via different types of devices. We can’t predict the future, but technology has a major impact in how user experience is going to evolve in the next years.

Based on expert’s opinions, here are the most notable
UX trends to keep an eye on in 2018

1. Accessibility

“Give all users the best experience possible regardless of limitations or disabilities.”(inVision)

User-friendly design will be the driving force behind innovation and business success. So, for more accessibility, content should: include text alternatives and captions for non-text media (videos and images), allow users to navigate with only the keyboard, give users control over which features to load or change, design page text with contrast or like an option to disable js/css without reducing usability. Also, using functional minimalism by removing unnecessary content designers could provide a more friendly user experience.

2. Voice Interfaces

“Keep in mind that some users aren’t able to use a mouse.”(inVision)

Somehow is sad, but true when talking about AI. Artificial intelligence will lead the experience to another level, screenless level, more voice interfaces, more human interaction even if it is a paradox. Voice user interfaces (VUIs) is already applied to some technologies like Apple’s Siri, Google’s OK Google, Microsoft’s Cortana and Amazon’s Alexa, so in the near future 30% of our communication will be based on VUIs and removing step by step the old graphical user interface(GUIs).

3. Augmented Reality

Even if AR is now used more in entertainment field (Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook ) and gaming, it will be included in future applications that can guide users on how a particular object looks like in a room/space before buying it. So, we could keep an eye on AR as a solution for real-life problems.

4. Vibrant Colors

Color is the most powerful tool. It can set a mood and influence users actions. Color can lead to an emotional experience more engaging and delightful.

Emotional experience is related to linear design experience, how a story is described (with a specific beginning, middle, and end), in other words creating user-customized applications step by step, for example providing content based on user location.

5. Biometric Authentications

Biometric Authentications(BA), the measurement of human body is not a new technology, but is constantly developing and more and more mobile applications are replacing old authentication style with it from finger print, face recognition to voice recognition. Apparently, BA is a safe way to keep a user's identity and its confidential information.
